CLINICAL TRIAL
Study: Stereotactic radiation therapy for cats with pituitary tumors

Location: Colorado State University Animal Cancer Center, Fort Collins, CO
Phone:    970-297-4195
www.csuanimalcancercenter.org

Eligibility: Feline patients diagnosed with a pituitary tumor. Feline patients diagnosed with a pituitary tumor by CT scan or
magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) that have clinical signs of endocrine disease associated with the tumor are eligible.
Patients must undergo a thorough diagnostic evaluation, including blood work (complete blood count, serum biochemical
profile), urinalysis, urine culture, abdominal ultrasound examination and chest X-rays. Patients with signs of heart
disease also will undergo a cardiac evaluation, including an echocardiogram. Baseline endocrine testing will be
performed.

Summary: The purposes of this study are to determine the best protocol to eliminate the pituitary tumor, to document the
effects of stereotactic radiation therapy on pituitary function, and to monitor the resolution of endocrine disease after
stereotactic radiation therapy.

Requirements and Incentives: The owner is financially responsible for all tests that determine if the patient qualifies for
the study. The owner is required to make and keep all appointments. Owners will be responsible for scheduling follow-up
evaluations at CSU or their pet's primary care veterinarian weekly for the first month and then monthly for one year. The
owners are responsible for administering medication(s) as prescribed. Once the patient is enrolled, the study will pay for
costs of endocrine testing (pre-radiation therapy and at 2, 6, 12, 26, and 52 weeks post radiation therapy) and the
follow-up CT scan. The study will contribute $1,000.00 toward the owner's invoices at CSU. The owner is responsible for
expenses in excess of the $1,000.00 contribution. Please contact the Consultation Coordinator at 970-297-4195 if you
are interested in learning more about clinical trials.
